Benefits Of GTL

UCG provides Linc Energy with access to synthesis gas for valuable downstream uses. The GTL process takes this gas to generate synthetic crude for diesel and jet fuel production. Linc Energy’s UCG to GTL model increases the availability and application of diesel as a transport fuel in countries where these technologies are applied.

Diesel engines carry fuel consumption advantages over gasoline fuelled vehicles. UCG to GTL diesel contains virtually no aromatics and sulphur and can be used in existing vehicles and infrastructure. This means that there is no need for complete replacement of vehicles, refineries and distribution systems.

The burning of any hydrocarbons in the atmosphere releases air emissions that can cause photo-chemical smog and contribute to health problems. The main health risk for Australians arises from particulate matter (PM-10) and hydrocarbon emissions1. UCG to GTL diesel is significantly cleaner burning than conventional diesel, resulting in substantially lower emissions of PM-10 and hydrocarbons2. The widespread use of UCG to GTL diesel would lead to significantly lower emissions of air toxins than conventional diesel.

UCG to GTL fuels produced locally also carry a reduction in shipping of crude oil into the country. This makes the overall supply chain more efficient and reduces the risk of ocean oil spills.
