Clean Energy In Australia

UCG Demonstration Facility, Queensland

Linc Energy has constructed and commissioned the world’s leading UCG demonstration facility in Queensland. Located near Chinchilla, about 300 kilometres west of Brisbane, the facility hosts a series of successive UCG gasifiers to produce syngas for cleaner energy solutions, such as gas-fired electricity and diesel and aviation fuels.

UCG first began at the facility in July 1999. Linc Energy ignited its fifth UCG gasifier in October 2011, which is a state of the art development, with advanced design methodologies and technologies specifically tailored to support UCG for the roll out of Linc Energy’s commercial Enhanced Oil Recovery, or EOR, and Gas to Liquids, or GTL, energy applications.

UCG Feasibility, South Australia

Linc Energy owns a 100 per cent interest in 10 Petroleum Exploration Licences and seven Exploration Licences covering a number of basins.

Linc Energy has completed a number of coal exploration programs in the Arckaringa and Walloway Basins. These programs were designed to investigate the geology of the target coal seams and evaluate the potential of UCG and coal seam gas. Further drilling is underway to improve geological models by determining the lateral extent of the coal formations.

Power Feasibility

Linc Energy is now assessing whether to install a UCG syngas-fired gas engine at its UCG Demonstration Facility in Queensland. Following the assessment process, this will further prove that UCG syngas is suitable for power generation, also providing an economic benefit by offsetting power costs for the UCG and GTL processes.

Also at the UCG Demonstration Facility, Linc Energy is planning to install the latest hydrogen fuel cell technology devleoped by its partner AFC Energy.
